HARNESS THE ENEMY!
A Plan of Survival by Oliver Wicks
Wake up ARM! A militia can't win a war without
learning to fight like an army! Amateur rambling and posturing
doesn't cut it in a life and death struggle. Naïve platitudes
and self-righteous ignorance can't save mankind. We need to get
real right now.
ARM is at war, but we aren't
waging a damn thing. Instead, this war is being waged upon us
by the enemy. Humanity is at the edge of a precipice, and we've
yet to get our hands out of our pockets. We're getting our asses
kicked because we don't know how to fight.
Now you all have to answer some
basic questions. Are you so afraid of machines that you can't
use them? Are you so afraid of machines that you want to destroy
them all? Or are you just too stupid to remember that they're
just tools-your tools?
We can only prevail in this struggle
if we use the best tools, the best weapons, at hand. ARM must
learn to turn the machines against themselves. By taking the battle
to them, we seize the initiative and determine the agenda. It's
the best way. It's the only way to win.
Who the Hell is Oliver Wicks and Why
Should We Listen to Him?
I am an expert on datasphere manipulation, security penetration,
and electro-chemical subversion. Unlike the rest of you well-meaning
clowns, I know how to play tomorrow's games. I can sling data
with the machines. I used to laugh at losers like you until I
realized that you're stupid, but you aren't wrong. I freely admit
I was a jackass. If you can do the same, and stop posturing, and
get serious, and learn what I can teach you, we might have at
least a snowball's chance in my old hometown.
Today, I still hack where few
men dare to travel. But now I chop for my fellow man. And I am
always on the offensive.
Some call me a "Node-buster."
I prefer to think of myself as somebody who provides an essential
service to the public, a regular Robin Freaking Hood who can steal
from the metal to give to the meat. My job is to uncover and publicize
the secrets of those who seek to avoid the scrutiny of the people.
As a new recruit in the Mankind-Robot
war, I am compelled to address some of the basic premises of ARM
and the other valiant protectors of humanity. As a no-nonsense,
take-no-prisoners practitioner of the arts of high-tech, my expertise
can hopefully shine a new light on current tactics utilized by
ARM. I also hope to bring to light new tactics that can guarantee
Mankind's eventual dominance of the human-AI relationship. Remember
the old saying, sometimes it takes fire to fight fire!
Using Tech to Fight Tech
First, we must resist the Luddite mewling of those who join the
cause because they couldn't pass Math 10 and ended up crying into
their beer about the unfairness of life. Guys like that are just
going to get mown down, as your pathetic rally debacle demonstrated.
The good news is that it's no big loss. Frankly that class of
soldier is just dead weight. Lose the wattle-and-daub mentality.
If you want to go Amish, get lost: the robots will pick you off
for sport when there's nothing better to watch on Infinite Channel
HTV. No war in history has been won by rejecting up-to-the-second
military technology or by trying to compete using older, out-of-date
equipment and tactics.
If you want to get martyred with
a pout on your lips, stick to your traditional tactics. If you
actually want to get your balls out of the coming meat grinder,
listen up.
Can We Exterminate the AIs?
Some of you seem to think we should whack to nasty robots and
return to a peaceful life of hayrides and farm animal fun.
Get over it.
There are just too many AIs;
and, more importantly, there are too many individuals, organizations,
and institutions with vested interests in the wealth, productivity,
and luxury that such machines provide.
Over the last few centuries there
have been numerous attempts to restrict or limit the use of new
and existing technologies. The score so far is roughly a zillion
to zero in favor of the guys whose tech jones is fully erect and
engorged. Once the genie is out of the bottle and providing goodies,
there is no practical way to get rid of him.
Case in point: check out the ITV. Over the last century and a
half, many powerful and influential groups attempted to restrict
and even eliminate the use of private, Individual Transportation
Vehicles. They had many good arguments on their side and gradually
obtained hard empirical evidence to support their case-the Warming
came and the oceans rose. But how successful were they at eliminating
or even restricting the use of ITVs? A free copy of our home game
to anybody who said "they did squat all." The great
unwashed masses refused to give up their luxuries and toys. Few
wanted to go back to walking or riding bicycles, and few were
willing to suffer the inconveniences of public transportation.
On the other hand, efforts to minimize and control the detrimental
effects of ITVs succeeded. Now we travel in vehicles that are
environmentally friendly and resource efficient.
